One more check in curb appeal progress. And this is a biggie.
I finally painted the railing that Ryan built in May. And boy, oh boy. I’m glad that’s done.
And because I never get tired of seeing befores and afters, here’s what the house looked like when we bought it in 2010. You may need to take a shower after witnessing this ugliness.
On the first day, we ripped out those bushes. Since then, we cleaned up the landscaping, got rid of the railroad ties, tore out the railings, removed the shutters and the horrible storm door, replaced the glass in the original window on the door and painted the door, replaced the windows and aluminum trim, painted the siding, cleaned and painted the porch floor and replaced the mailbox.
But of all the projects, I think the railings take the cake. They make such a statement. Ryan really killed it when he built these railings.
Ryan was on Henry duty all weekend so I could knock out this project. Let me tell you, painting porch railings is likely one of my least favorite painting projects of all time. It was hotter than heck and the project is so tedious. But, it’s worth it in the end.
Now, I really only have a few other things that I’d like to do to call the front of the house “complete.” I need to clean the porch floor and stairs really well and touch up some paint on the floor. Then, I’ll add some house numbers, some vinyl on the door, and paint the light post out front. I’m not adding weeding garden beds to the list, because I know that ain’t ever happening. 😉
Aren’t the flower pots looking great? I kind of love them. Especially the sweet potato vines, which are close to taking over the world.
In other news, I bought this adorable watering can at Target to replace one that broke. Since I have to water the heck out of my pots, the can may as well be pretty, right?
I’m definitely no longer embarrassed to call this house our home.
What do you think of our latest project?
(I also painted the railings on the back porch, but I have a few other projects to complete before I’ll share. I think.)

Just gorgeous. I bet if the old owners came by they wouldn’t even realize it was the same house. Absolutely stunning!
Gorgeous! I always love your color choices and style.
What a difference some paint can make – well and a few other changes. I love how bright and fresh the railings are now.
the railings turned out awesome! They are so bright and bold! And I LOVE your watering can sooo much! How cute!
Awesome. The railings look fantastic! I cannot believe you painted them in this heat, you are a crazy woman.
I love the red and white theme, very clean and classy.

It looks awesome! I love the touches of your signature color! 🙂
Love the railing! It really pops against the red and gray:)
Wow! I think your paint job is pretty near perfect. Your home is so lovely! I need to take some curb appeal lessons from you.
And now I am off to catch up on the other several blog posts I’ve missed lately…
I think you should come do a curb appeal makeover of La Casa Haley 😛
I am mucho impressed! I adore the watering can, cute find!
if i was your neighbor, i would be kissing the ground you two walk on. Imagine living next to the “before” for years and then having you two move in and make it so beautiful!! I seriously love it. And that watering can? Adorbs!!
what a difference that makes! You guys are amazing. I am constantly awed by how perfect your house is looking. 🙂
It looks lovely! I also love that little watering can.
That was definitely worth all the time that you guys put into it! I love the crisp, clean look.
Also, I love that watering can :).
that looks so stinking amazing! love the red pops.
Looks AWESOME!!!! Painting each of those by hand sounds dreadful but you got it done and it’s spectacular.
Woah! It’s looking curb-alicious! But seriously the railings look so good! You and Ryan both rock!
Absolutely adorable! What a change from before! Love it!
SO much better! Love the watering can too.
the curb appeal of that house is just too much! you’ve done a great job fixing it up – in so little time too!
i’m sure it was a pain to paint all that, but the result is sooo worth it.
You have knocked the curb appeal out of the park! The porch looks so inviting – you did an awesome job. 🙂
He did such a good job and I hear you on being thankful a paint job is done! arghh.. so much work!
Wow it looks AMAZING you guys sure have turned the house into a cozy home. Although I hope its ok to admit… I’d love to come over and paint your porch ceiling sky blue :o) I know – I’m odd.
Curb Chic, Kim! I am smitten with the red door. I’ve been thinking about painting our front door orange. Adventurous or tacky, I’m not sure yet!
You’re a rock star!
Much love – A
Kim, it looks GREAT! You guys have worked your patooties off on that house and it SHOWS. I bet your neighbors love you. Good job!
Doesn’t even seem like the same house!!
Love that watering can. I have a frog that keeps making it’s home in mine. I try to pour the water and nothing comes out. He needs to find a new residence.
Looks stunning! What a transformation…
It’s so so gorgeous. Any chance you want to come finish painting MY porch railings? They’ve been almost finished for two plus years now. I promise to hold the baby.
It looks brilliant. Love the red accents on the steps that match the door. What a transformation you’ve made! Wish I could hire y’all out!
