If you are looking for a go-to snack for upcoming holiday parties, exchanges and work get-togethers, look no further.
Christmas is only a few weeks away, which means that now is the time to plan and complete homemade gifts.

Since many of us (myself included) are recouping from a fabulous Thanksgiving weekend, this is a perfect challenge to ease us back into the holidays (and still give us me time to unpack the 5003 boxes of Christmas decorations around me).

Dare to ... eat cookies!
As we begin to attend holiday parties, share your favorite cookie recipe for all to enjoy. It’s like a digital cookie swap. Share the recipe and a review of the cookie. If you can, add a picture. And don't worry about the extra calories. At Christmas, cookies are calorie-free.
First up - our cookie. I tried something that I found on Pinterest and inspired by our new-found love of cast iron.

Sorry for the delay in the recap of Dare to ... entertain! Thanksgiving and traveling meant I was pretty much away from my computer and stuffing my face at all times.

Way back in July, my friend Katie from The Perks emailed me about the first pennant quilt I made as a gift. She was wondering if I'd make one for her baby, due in January.
Well, to say I was flattered would be the understatement of the century! That she would put trust in me to make something for baby girl made me so proud. And scared to death. I was (and am) so darn scared that she'll realize I'm just a fraud who doesn't know what she's doing. But, I agreed.
Many months later after finding out the little miracle is a girl, here is my most recent pennant quilt.
I have to admit - the table settings are usually one of my favorite weeks of Dare to DIY. Did you see any of the awesome entertaining posts yesterday? I love the Dare to DIY blog parties!

Welcome back to the second week of Dare to DIY - and this week it's all about entertaining and setting our tables.

Dare to… entertain!
Show us your table! Even if you are not hosting Thanksgiving, take this opportunity to make your table look great. Bring out your dishes and napkins and set your table. I promise you that it will make you smile every time you walk by. Get creative and use new things. Or go true DIY and make something totally new.
So, first, here's what I came up with ...
An untraditional holiday table...

Did you see the fabulous 44 projects that were linked up to Dare to ... be thankful! this week?
No?
Go ahead. I'll wait.

Okay, this may be one of the most random things I've ever written a post about. (And I've written about some random things in three years.)
The subject: Cast iron

My husband has recently become obsessed with old cast iron skillets. He found one in an antique store. Then, his grandmother gave him two more of hers.
(I am still uncertain why someone needs three cast iron skillets. But we're rolling with it.)
(He does like to cook eggs. That may be the reason.)
It is kind of neat to have some variety in our cookware. And since my husband loves them, I love them. And as it turns out, cast iron cookware should last forever. What's not to love?
So, if you find yourself with some old cast iron cookware, here's some things you may need to know.
Initial cleaning
If you have an old skillet and wish to clean it before using it, it's like magic. Stick the skillet in the oven and run on self-clean. When it's done, all the "gunk" will be ash. Wipe clean with paper towels.
Seasoning
After clean, simply rub vegetable oil on the skillet and bake at 350 degrees for an hour. This seasoning creates a nonstick coating and a lovely, black patina over time. This will only get better with time.
Everyday cleaning
After using the skillet, simply wash with hot water and a mild abrasive (like coarse salt) right away to clean. Don't use soap or put in the dishwasher. Dry thoroughly to prevent rust and re-season, as needed.
Here's how our cast iron pan looked after running through the oven's self-cleaning function.
Did you check out some of the thankfulness projects yesterday? You folks are amazing! This is going to be a wonderful year for Dare to DIY blog parties!

Welcome to the first Dare to Do it Yourself Blog Party! Did you dare?
