After a little detour, here’s part two of our so-far house. (Check out the first part – our bedroom – here.) And this is one that I still feel needs a LOT of work. But it’s a start.
The exterior.
The yellow siding is killing me, friends. Dying over here. But if all goes as planned, we’ll be painting soon. (Cross those fingers that Midwest fall weather stays pretty calm. Because I don’t think I can handle looking at this all winter.)
But at least the house now looks like someone is living here and cares.
And for kicks, here’s the progress so far…

(October 2010)
(November 2010)
(September 2011)
Outside of the porch, I put the red flowers cans up on the fence. They look quite cheerful and I’m looking forward to adding some mums soon.
And that’s the exterior. I’m still considering repainting the porch, but that will probably wait until spring when I can make sure I’ll like it with the new siding color.
What do you think?

You have already made so many improvements to the exterior! It looks better and better with each month. I especially adore your red door!
Great job! Exterior work can be the pits sometimes. I love what you’ve done so far though! Look forward to seeing what color you choose for the siding!
What a difference! The new color will really be a huge change…and I bet you do end up painting the porch. I hate curb appeal projects- they take too long, never last long and consistently need touch-ups (weeding etc.). I just don’t find them fun or easy.
Love the red door! When you paint the siding it will look like a new house! 🙂
It’s looking amazing! I love the fence, totally gives it that cute housse look :]
Your new home is so cute; love the red door! Old houses have so much character =)
It looks awesome, Kim. I hope that we keep this mild fall weather around so that you can get your wish and get it painted. (Although, it has come so far, you should be proud of where it is!!)
Your house is adorable. You’re doing a great job on it. I actually don’t mind the yellow, but can relate to the experience of staring at something that you want to get rid of, but need the time and money to do it.
I loved watching what you did to your other house, I can’t wait to follow progress on this one as well. : )
Have you decided on an exterior color? Fingers are crossed that the weather holds out for you guys!!
Kim, you and Ryan dazzle me with your home makeover know-how! Siding be damned, your house is beautiful inside and out. But come a time if or when you must paint, might I suggest glittery neon purple! I think it’s the next big thing in home chic. :^)
Much love!

Your finishing touches put a smile on any old, sad house. It has been absolultely wonderful being part of this project as well as a joy watching this house turn into a Woodward home! We couldn’t be prouder!
I love the updates you’ve made so far–the plantings, shudder removal and fence look great. You asked on my blog how long it took us to paint the exterior of our house last year. The short answer: too long. 🙂 Longer answer: we worked mostly on weekends and didn’t push ourselves too hard. We started scraping and power washing in mid-June and had it mostly finished by the end of August. Though, as you saw in my post, I’m still painting trim in spots!
I don’t want to scare you with our experience. We were really lackadaisical about it all. It could’ve been done much quicker if we’d have been more vigilant. You’ll do great. Good luck!!
Your red door makes me happy. I’d offer to help paint but I’m sure I’m busy that week-end….
It looks AMAZING girlfriend :o) I hope to get to see it in person one day. Oh and I’m LOVING those chairs on your porch I’ve been looking for a set myself.

Good luck hopefully the weather holds for you all. What color are you thinking? Painting our house made the biggest difference. Our neighbors are still coming up to us saying they are thrilled we added some color.
Wow!! I just love posts like this that show how much progress you all have made. 🙂 The cute little red patio set looks like a great place to hang out!
I agree. The siding is tired looking and doing nothing for the adorable house you built on the inside. I know this might sound boring, but I could see it painted white and the porch painted a fun color.
