The so-far house: Bathroom

September 14, 2011 by Kim Woodward

Part three of the so-far house tour is our only current bathroom.

I’m going to shoot it straight – we had two REALLY large bathrooms in the old house. So adjusting to a teeny (but beautiful) bathroom is an adjustment. We’d like to add a bath on the main floor next year, but for now, this is it.

I just keep telling myself it’s a heckuva lot less to clean. And this would probably work if I ever cleaned.

Kidding. Kind of.

Despite the small size, this bathroom really does pack a big punch.

I love all the fixtures – the chrome light and faucets, the medicine cabinet, the IKEA hooks, the tile…

The photos are all from San Francisco. The single images were purchased on our honeymoon in 2007. The triple photos were from our most recent trip.

And I added an IKEA shelf over the toilet for additional storage. (Inspired by Jen at Home in the Country’s fabulous bathroom.) I like to keep all my morning stuff in tubs so it’s easy to put it all away so the countertops are clean. With even less counter space in our new bathroom, this is even more important.

Here’s the fabric that will be our curtain. For now it’s draped over the curtain rod.

So that’s the bathroom – so far.

And the deets:

Paint colors: Gravity by Valspar (color matched to Behr Ultra Premium Plus at Home Depot), Standard white from Behr Ultra Premium Plus trim paint for beadboard and other trim
Tile: White and black unglaxed hexagon tile and white subway tile purchased locally
Vanity: Hand-me-down, painted black and added beadboard on the side
Light fixtures: Ceiling light purchased at Gilded Salvage in Minneapolis, Sconces from Barn Light Electric
Faucet: Vintage Tub and Bath
Shower fixture: Price Pfister at Faucets Direct
Shelves: Grundtal at IKEA
Curtain fabric: Metro Living Tile Black from Fabric.com
Black tubs: Target
Hooks: IKEA

Hi, I stumbled across your blog on Pinterest and love your bathroom remodel! Can you please tell me the name of the photographer for the honeymoon photos? I would love to purchase some.

I literally just picked my jaw up off the floor. I haven’t seen a bathroom this charming in so long. The fixtures, the details, the textures–they all work seamlessly together. And those sconces–OMG, those beauties!

Even your toilet has integrity. Exquisite work, my friend!!

I’m dying to makeover my bathroom. Great job on yours. Loving the black and white theme. That shower curtain is to-die-for. I like what you did to the vanity as well!!!

Kim this is going to be extremely random but I saw that you have a scentsy warmer plugged in, in your bathroom and I wanted to make sure you knew about the Scentsy fundraiser myself and another blogger are hosting. It’s for a great cause (I won’t go into details here) so go check out my post if you have time.

John and I are starting to pain our bathroom re-dos (yes we have 3 bathrooms that all need to be updated….great to have the bathrooms….far less than great they all need major work). My mom and I were talking about last week and she said “why don’t you just get Kim to come do it?”.

Lady, you call that bathroom small? I call that shizz palatial! PALATIAL! Haha. All of my bathrooms are considerably smaller. Like sit on the pot and have your knees hit the tub small. And none look as good as any of yours. But dude, I’m loving the B&W pics and the curtain fabric. SO good.

Just curious did you get rid of the blogs you follow on the side or is the inerweb being a little wonky?

I love the beadboard/wainscoating (I’m never sure which is correct, lol)! I have been wanting to do that somewhere in our house and I wonder if the bathroom would be the perfect place!

It looks so fresh I really like it! You will get used to the size. Our loft in Atlanta had an amazing bathroom two sinks and plenty of room. When we moved to our new place here the bathroom can only fit a small sink and there is barely room for the both of us. I set up a vanity in the bedroom so that helps.

I love the color pallet and classic look. We recently completed a big bathroom overhaul (actually did the before and after post this week!) and used many of the same images as inspiration. Yours is beautiful!

Love, love, love beadboard. I like your better than any of the inspirational photos. You have a better balance of color in yours.
It would be tough having only one bathroom, but boy, it’s a beauty!
