Here’s my most recent baby quilt, made for some of our friends expecting their first little one in September.
I was inspired by Cheryl at A Pretty Cool Life, who made a pennant quilt last year. I filed it away in my brain (and on Pinterest) in the hopes that I would make one someday.
Then I saw this beauty on Vintage Modern Quilts and fell in love again.
And my version…
Sarah (the mom-to-be) is super trendy and fun, and I hoped she would like this style for her little one. I love quilts with lots of white for a fun and modern look and I’m really pleased with how this one came together.
I chose all the fabrics to loosely coordinate with the gorgeous bedding they registered for at Restoration Hardware Baby. I actually had all the fabrics on-hand, which made this the first time ever that I was able to make a full quilt with what I already had. (SCORE!)
The gender of the baby is unknown, so I went with some neutrals, with a pop of pinkish coral. The great part of this quilt is that you only need small pieces. I was able to use tons of my favorites for this quilt. And the back is a really pretty taupe/grey dot.
I just did a few lines of quilting at the top of the pennants, and a black stitch to tie the pennants together. All the pennants are stitched together with a zig zag stitch. After washing, the edges of the flags got really soft and fuzzy. I love that.
Overall, I’m really happy with how it turned out. I hope mom and dad-to-be like it, too. And I hope the new baby will spend lots of time napping and playing on this quilt.
What do you think?
(Don’t forget to link up to our Pouf-A-Long tomorrow. Should be lots of poufy fun.)

I’m pretty sure I need a pennant quilt in my life. What is it about those darn things that go over the top on the cute meter? Put a flag on a flag on it and it’s automatically adorbs! Seriously, you’re friends better give you awesome gifts in return for all the amazing stuff you give.
Amanda @ Serenity Now says
How could they not love it??! You did a wonderful job, Kim! ๐

I love it!! I’ve been eyeing that same quilt from A Pretty Cool Life and plan on making one before a baby shower I am hosting next month. I’m just waiting for baby to come (due tomorrow but seems to want to cook a while longer) so I can choose particular colors. I may be back with questions since it will be my first quilt. Great job!

I haven’t seen a quilt like that before. I really like it! Since my sister has been in town, I’m over at my parents’ house a lot more this week…I get to see your family too. What a lucky girl I am!

Fun! I actually need to whip up a gender neutral quilt (haven’t had to do many of those), this is a fun way to add some pazzia. It also looks pretty fast and easy-with little cutting and pinning- the parts I hate.
LizzieBeth says
Kim it looks fantastic! Can you make that in a grown up size and send it to me? ๐

The Brick Cottage says
Cute! That looks like a quilt that possibly a first timer (like me, if I ever dust off my sewing machine) could attempt. Would you agree?
Melinda says
You have very lucky friends. That is a truly adorable quilt.
Nikki says
Seriously, CUTE! I have to admit every time you post a cute quilt that you have made a secretly wish that you were my best friend and that I was having a baby so that you would come to my baby shower and give quilt. So cute!
Danielle says
I am LOVING your baby quilts. And I have to say they’re making me a bit jealous. I would love to make one for our little one in December but having no sewing skills or machine sort of makes that difficult.

Love it! There is so much that you could do with it, too. You could add the baby’s name and statistics on the pennants. So cute! Great work again, Kim.
