Look! A sleeve for my Nook!

February 23, 2011 by Kim Woodward

My new e-reader is treating me well, friends. And it makes me feel like rhyming. A book! A  book on my Nook! Look!

(You can ignore me. I may have been up until 12:30 last night finishing the book The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo on my e-reader.)

(Which, by the way, is a crazy book. Good. But crazy. And graphic. Have you read it?)

Because I’m still in my height of glory about my new Barnes & Noble Nook that I won, here’s another e-reader post for you.

I knew I wanted some sort of protection from scratches and dust to keep from destroying my new reader when it’s traveling in my purse. Unfortunately, my choice from B&N was $125. What can I say? I have good taste and I like the Kate Spade cover best.

Instead of settling for a different case and forking over $30 or $40, I figured I’d dig into my fabric stash and try to make something on my own.

I put together a really simple pocket for my Nook in some coordinating fabrics I had in my stash.

It’s the very last of my pretty paisley fabric. I’ve made two lunch bags and this case from it. I’ll miss you, old friend.

I added a pocket to the front and a Velcro closure. I used fleece interfacing for a little padding.

I think I’m going to try a flap front for the next one that I can open like a book. I’ll let you know how that goes. Until then, I’ll be using this to carry books in my Nook. Look!

While I think this is pretty self-explanatory and it’s a simple project, I’ll be making another one for a friend soon and would be happy to post a step-by-step tutorial for it in the future.  Let me know if this would be helpful.

What do you think?

Look at you whipping up your own little Nook cover; I am impressed (as always). It looks absolutely perfect!

Love the Nook cover – I got one for Christmas and I am obsessed (and also annoyed all the cute covers are so gosh darn expensive!). We have to be “friends” so we can share books! The technology is amazing! I just finished the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and I’m waiting for the second one to become available at the library. That’s right – you can download library books to your Nook – have you done that yet? Send me your email and we can share books!!

Girl, look at you go!!! I would never be able to whip something like that up! I need to learn how to sew asap!

I love that you can just whip up something on a whim! My iPad saw this post and got uber jealous.

Wow, you get your projects done fast. I’ve had two runners pinned and ready to go for a month, yet they are still waiting to hit my machine. I like your fabric choices, but I do love me some Kate. Did you scotch guard your case? No project leaves my craft room without a good coat…not very green I know but it has been useful.

I have not read that yet. I have a hard time getting into a new series after it’s popular… Dunno why.

    A tutorial would be awesome!

LOVE the Salander series – I read all three on my Kindle (which I adore).

The Nook cover is so cute! A tutorial would be great.

Wow, beautiful! And yes, I read The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. I couldn’t get it out of my head FOREVER. Glad I read it but not sure I’d read it again (or the “The Girl” books). People ask me about it and I can’t figure out how to succinctly describe the book.

You are so creative! I love how you just whip out those sewing projects like they’re nothing – I’m impressed. I have a Sony E-Reader that I got because you can download books from our library for FREE!!! Speaking of, I need to get back into that! There’s a limited selection, but it should grow over time.

Looks awesome Kim! I’m always very impressed with your projects. 🙂 I’ve wanted to read the Girl series, but have heard from several people that it IS very graphic… I’m not so good with that… we’ll see. Can’t wait to read your full review on it!

Love love love the material. I don’t have a Nook but I want one of these! LOL I really think you are so talented and should be in business for yourself. You could sell all these cute homemade items! Of course your mother gets one of everything before going to market! It’s really cute Kim!

It looks great, Kim. Are you liking the Nook? Is reading on it OK on your eyes?

I just finished the Girl series – very good. The swedish movies (English subtitles) are available on Netflix streaming. I might check those out this weekend.

Oh and “The girl with the Dragon Tattoo” is amazing I just started the second book in the series.

I love this. I have read the whole Girl with the.. series. I didn’t know how to pronounce any of their names but the books keep me hooked. Definitely post a tutorial and then make me one for my kindle. 🙂 I am no good at sewing!

so cute and looks very padded for protection. i wonder if one can download books to an ipod touch? i just got one of those.

oh yeah, graphic? have you seen the movie? i can’t imagine what the u.s. movie will portray-probably not nearly as graphis as the original.

I have a Kindle and it is amazing! My hubby got me the 3G one and I was able to download books, for free, in Jamaica! And it was so awesome to not have to carry six or seven books for a week long vacation on the beach!

And all three of the books in that series are great! And once you are done, watch the movies, too! The ones with the Swedish subtitles are great! Enjoy!

Forgot to mention: I love the sleeve, but I find it more secure to have a cover such as the Kate Spade one (I got a basic green one at B&N for 30 bucks or so). I’d be worried I’d drop it out of the sleeve.

Don’t you just LOVE your Nook? I got one for myself for Christmas and it was the best thing I got!

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is a fabulous book! The second one is great as well. I currently am 1/2 way through the third, but I misplaced my book.

Did you know you can listen to Pandora while on your Nook? If you aren’t familiar with Pandora, go to Pandora.com and set yourself up an account, add your favorites, and prepare to have a wonderful music listening experience while reading on your Nook.
