Renovation progress report – week 11

October 21, 2010 by Kim Woodward

Alternate title: Reasons why my husband and family rock my socks off

As I was living it up in Washington, D.C., I left my husband at home to care for the pugs, work and do other grown-up things. I’m thoughtful in that way. He doesn’t like to travel anyway, so I was really doing him a favor.

While it would have been completely reasonable for him to do fun things and blow off all obligations while I was away, I came home to this.

That’s a garage, folks.

I married a good man. Some ladies hope for flowers. I love myself a good slab of concrete.

Ryan and my awesome dad rallied together a force, poured the slab and framed the walls while I was gone. Ryan didn’t tell me how far they’d gotten to surprise me. (My mom took pictures for blogging purposes.)

This was a great surprise.

Within five days, the roof trusses were up. At this rate, I should be parking in it by Sunday. 😉

Right, Ryan?

Ryan?

Although I’m beginning to wonder if Ryan was actually working or if he just spent his time on the cell phone while Kyle worked. (I kid.)

In other house news, I came home from D.C. with a nasty cold. So, since I’ve gotten home, I’ve been supervising and medicating myself.

Oh yeah, and I did use the air nailer.

I deserve some sort of a medal for all my hard work. 😉

It was a good week at NewlyWoodwards. I had to do nothing and somehow still got a garage out of the deal. Try not to be too jealous.

Love my garage-makers. Thanks, Ryan, dad, Kyle and all!

What do you think?

I think your husband is amazing. We need a detached garage, but the ground has to be leveled and bulldozed and all kinds of whatever else, so Mr. keeps putting it off.

Sorry you got sick Kim! I was feeling a little off the next days too; something bad going around school.

    What do I think?

I think ya’ll should be on some house renovation show and get some major sponsors on this blog of yours! Seriously, Kim, the work you, Ryan and the family are doing on this new house is INTENSE and real — and somehow you make it look like most handy people could do it (with serious supervision in our case). Rock on sister, rock on.

Now … turn that garage into an amazing beast and then park you cars in there! Oh how cool would it be to have a party in there — like long dinner table party??

Nice work Newlywoodwards! Ya’ll are my house redo heroes. Seriously … your blog inspires me and is so real. Thank you.

I love SO many things about this post, but I’ll narrow it down for you.

    1) I love that Ryan kept it a secret how far he’d gotten to surprise you. Best surprise ever.

    2) I LOVE that your mom took pictures for blogging purposes. Can we give her a blog name like Caroline so that I can refer to her as if I know her? I’d like that.

    3) I love that your dad and brother were involved? You know what my dad would say if B asked him to help build a garage?

    4) I love air nailers.

And I do not love that you have a cold. Having had one myself of late, I feel for you.

    That is some AMAZING progress!!
It has taken us months to redo a single bathroom (floor, new door and some drywall, paint).

Hm, maybe I should take a quick trip and somehting like this might happen. What do you think?

Sorry you’re sick. I have a cold and it seems like it is really going around.

    I need one of those.

Something tells me if I leave my husband alone to do it, it wouldn’t quite go the way yours did.

    Pretty awesome for you though!!!
