I spy with my little eye...

You may not recognize the scarlet beauty. Perhaps this will refresh your memory.

I know some of you will be mad at me for painting that fun, chippy little scale. But, I think that crisp, fire engine red was just what she needed.

And, now she just loves her new home amongst the Fiestaware. Who wouldn't?

The most shocking part to me was how well the actual face of the scale cleaned up. My BFF Magic Eraser just cut the years of yuck off the front, and it's good as new.

After scrubbing her and taping off the face, I sprayed her with my favorite brand of Rustoleum paint, Painter's Touch Ultra Cover 2x. It was on sale at Menards for $1.98/can. And, Ryan wasn't the least bit surprised when I came home with 12 cans. Can you blame me?
It was a little difficult to get a perfect paint job without painting the face, but I decided to embrace the imperfection. It's old and it's beautiful. Someday, we'll all be the same way. ;)

What do you think?

I think it looks fantastic!
I'm always drawn to old vintagey worn things, but at the end of the day everything in my house is crisp and clean and new looking.

and love, love, LOVE Magic Eraser!

Your scale looks wonderful in red!

One of those pictures almost looks like the tea cup and all of those fiestaware plates are resting on the scale because of the glass shelves. Or maybe it's just a little too early for me :)

Great job! It looks like it was always meant to be red. And the colorful dishes in the cabinet just help inhance it!

I can't believe how well that turned out!

I think I've told you before, but I have the exact same scale that JEGs and I scored at a yard sale last year. We hemmed and hawed about painting it, but in the end decided against it. I'm so glad you painted yours-- I'm living vicariously through you ;)

Major props for going as bold as red. I think it looks awesome with the Fiesta Wear!

Ooooh I love it! The cabinet looks fantastic - the colors just pop! My hubby is a little bit of a color-phobe, so it wouldn't fly at my house, but it's beautiful! :)

I think it looks nice! If chippy/shabby chic isn't your style, then you shouldn't have to keep it that way. :)

The red is so fun! I love it and it definitely works in your Fiestaware hutch!

Oh, I love it! My kitchen is red and white 50's style plastics. It would be PERFECT.
Also, my dishes are scarlet and white Fiestaware. So I doubly love this!

I definitely agree. The red paint is totally great on it. Forget what others say. :) It's your scale!

You found the perfect tone! Love it!

It's precious! The edge of the face would have driven me absolutely batshit and I love that you just went with it. Honestly, I wouldn't have noticed it if you hadn't said anything...

You have inspired me to start collecting FiestaWare, BTW. I am totally pea-green with envy over your Christmas collection. I tried to find some and somebody on ebay wanted $60 for ONE PLATE! Pffft.
