My husband, the softie

>> Wednesday, March 24, 2010

We've had a spurt of great, spring-like weather lately. Or maybe it's just spring. I don't know. I live in the Midwest. It snowed on Saturday. It was 68 degrees and sunny today.

So, one day last week after work, I asked Ryan and the dogs if they wanted to go for a long walk to enjoy the sun. Ryan was a little unsure. He said he had been couch-bound for so long, he was too out of shape for a long walk.

HA!

Lola was also unsure. She's definitely out of shape.

But, Franco and I talked them into it.

So, we went for a long walk anyhow. About 15 minutes into the walk, Ryan said that he and Lola were EXHAUSTED. I (politely) told them to suck it up.

At about 30 minutes, Lola began to slow down. Then, she started fake squatting. That's right friends, Lola was pretending to go potty. Just to get a rest.

Then, after 45 minutes. She did this.

She relaxed under a shade tree and refused.to.move.

And, do you know what my sweet husband did? He picked up Lola and carried her home. All the way home. Firefighter-style.

Unfortunately, this was the time that my camera battery died. (Darn it.) I didn't get a picture of Ryan carrying the dog on our walk.

My husband may just be a softy... do you think?

What I do know... it's time for us to do some training. Because a 45-minute walk shouldn't take Lola down for the count. Or Ryan for that matter.

20 people have something to say:

TOO funny Kim! And looky look at all that green grass starting to peak out under your exhausted pug! Praise goodness, spring might actually be here. ;-)

hahahah! I had to drag my husband on a long walk also yesterday! But our doggies didn't tire as easily as he did.

Too funny I am laughing just thinking of him carrying lola home!

that is too funny. My husband had to carry our boxer home one day from a walk/run. He just refused to go any further so my husband had to carry him all the way home. It is just too funny what these animals can get us to do.

Ha! My hubs has carried our (30 lb) English Springer home from walks, but that was because he was leash training her and got tired of her not listening to him. I would love to see our dog too tired to move, but I think we would've passed out on the pavement long before she would....

We used to walk our Basset hounds in the neighborhood, Columbus, out 75 lb male would tire after a few blocks. First he'd sit then lie down. Soon after, he'd be on his side snoring. On a few occasions I sent my husband home to get the car.

Oh goodness Kim, my (fawn) Daisy does the same thing! We walked to the dog park a few weeks ago and on the walk back she just plopped down and refused to walk anymore so I carried her all the way back home. We just went to the vet and they put her on prescription diet food to get her to lose at least 5 lbs.
Of course my black one (Bella) is 17lbs but pure muscle since she is VERY active.
we will see how this goes!

Looks like Lola could use a few more walks ha. I love that she "fake" squats, that's just awesome. If my dogs here the word walk they go crazy and run for the door ha.

We were in Indiana at the Covered Bridge Festival once and William did this exact same thing. Scott had to carry him for the rest of the day. He just refused to budge and I felt so badly because people were staring at us like we were torturing him! That little stinker!

That is hilarious! Sadly we have never tired ours out to that point. Too bad your camera died, a picture of that would have been priceless. And I feel you pain with that snow...bring on spring!

Lola is too funny. The fake squat kills me. She is so smart! And yes, Ryan sounds like a big softie! Great story.

Too too funny. We went on a walk last night and after going up 1 hill my husband was D-O-N-E!

Before my husband and I got married we lived on the same block in different duplexes. Once I moved in with him the dogs were very confused when we kept passing up my old place to at what should have been the end of our walks. One time Sophia sat down in the grass of what used to be our front lawn and refused to move.

haha! I had a dog that used to do that. He would always conk out when we were almost home and I'd tug and pull on his leash and was amazed that I could get his 18 pound body to budge! So I'd carry him home for the last five minutes of the walk.

My mom's pug does this! So funny...

One of the first weeks we had Chester I took him for a walk and had to carry him home, I overestimated puppy legs.

Okay, maybe not. But, Kim usually gets a big smile on her face and says, "They like me, they really like me."
