Home of the throwed rolls

If your New Year's resolution was to lose weight, you'd better drive right on past Lambert's Cafe.
I kept meaning to post about our little detour to Lambert's, but just never did. I guess that today is the day. We went to the Lambert's in Sikeston, Mo., on our way back from Memphis at Thanksgiving.
They are known for their hot rolls.

But, unlike most places, the waiters throw rolls at Lambert's. Head's up.

And, if you are still stuffed to the brim from Thanksgiving and decide to order a salad, this is what comes. So much for fat free.
(I had to pick all of that pesky bacon off the top. Ick. Did you know that I have a major aversion to bacon? And ham? Hate it. Disgusting. Sorry to you bacon and ham lovers.)
But, what made Lambert's so great in my book was that they gave me this mug for my iced tea (unsweetened, please). I was a happy girl.

22 people have something to say:
Those rolls look delicious! Bread is my weakness.
Anti-bacon!? I've never heard of such a thing!
I love how the salad came in a bread bowl.
Bread bowl = yum.
You don't like bacon??!? I never knew that. What about turkey bacon? Would that be different?
mmmm mmmm
Looks yummy. Nothing beats warm bread.
YUM! We were at Lambert's last weekend. I grew up south of Sikeston and we love to go to Lambert's when we have the time when we visit.
Nothing beats the warm rolls and sweet tea!
hehe.... I don't think I've ever had turkey bacon. Does it taste like bacon? If so, I don't like it either. Ick. ;)
Wait a second...you don't like ham? Or BACON???? My word, if I could only have your tastebuds...my thighs would thank you :)
I've been to that very same Lamberts a long time ago...back when I still had the metabolism of a 13 year old so I ate a ton of those rolls without giving it a second thought. Yum-o!
Ahhhhh, Lambert's!!! I'm a native Missourian and Lambert's has definitely played a part in my upbringing! I think I've got about five of those big blue cups.
Once we were there during the summer, and my sister was wearing a sleeveless shirt. She couldn't catch the roll and it hit her shoulder and slid down her arm, leaving a big buttery trail. :) It was hilarious.
Yum! My grandparents have been here and I remember them telling stories about the fun they had.
Good thing my New Year's resolution is to reach my heaviest weight ever!
LOVE this post! My grandparents grew up close to Sikeston, so once a year when we were in town for our annual family reunion, we would eat there. It is one of my top 5 childhood memories. I live in GA now and haven't been there in years. It made me feel like I was a kid again...so for that...THANK YOU!
P.S...My husband calls me the "Carb Queen."...I'm pretty sure it's their fault! :)
It's quite the experience, right? So fun!
Swine is the tastiest meat on the planet! i am drooling thinking about it.
I went there years ago on our family trip to Branson, Mo ..I laughed because there were people there with catchers mitts and baseball mitts! It was alot of fun trying to catch them! Love the mug..I use those quite frequently!!!
I love the wall decor- I've seen a lot of license plate walls but never one that spells something.
the salad looks so good
If only you would have told us you were going to Lambert's. I'm a secret blog stalker. Mrs. Dirnberger and I live just north of Sikeston. We could have had a big real life meeting.
andrew went to a lambert's in alabama - one of his friends has a pilots license and a private plane so when we were still in FL he flew in with 2 of his friends. lamberts had a car at the airport waiting to pick them up and they got to scoot in front of everyone in the LONG line!!
Makes me want to drive to MO to eat there for sure! I do have a thing for BLT's but I am with you on the ham hate for sure! Ick! Loving the big drunky tea mug too... did you get to keep it?
I, in fact, made a resolution to gain 25 to 30 lbs this year! Woot! Lucky me. Babies love rolls, right? I'm just kinda staring at that close-up the rolls. Wanting. Needing. Making plans for road trip to MO this weekend.
Oh! And I've seen this place on the travel channel or food network or something. Don't they walk around and serve you baked beans or something from giant buckets? Either way, meet me in Missouri. Sunday at noon.
I've heard about this place! Were the rolls as yummy as they looks??
Lamberts is great-in that super-greasy-southern-cooking kinda way. The wait was always so long though, to even sit down. When I was there, I got pegged in the chest with a roll.
