Dare to... entertain! (Dare to DIY week 2/6)

>> Sunday, November 22, 2009

Welcome to the second week of the Dare to DIY Blog Party. I cannot wait to see what you all came up with. After last week , I know it will be awesome!

Are you ready?

Dare to... entertain!
Show us your table. This could be for Thanksgiving, for everyday, for the holidays or for something else entirely (Twilight, anyone?). Bring out your table settings, display it in a new way or make something completely new (a table runner, centerpiece, etc.). I promise that having a set table will make you smile. And, everyone can use a smile.

Since I was throwing a New Moon Premier Party on Friday, I decided to stick with this. I'm not hosting Thanksgiving and all of our fall decorations are already down in preparation for the party. Here's what I came up with:
Dinner... Twilight-style.
I wanted the table to be dramatic. So, I started with a black tablecloth and a red runner. My aunt loaned me the lovely antique candelabra and I dripped red wax on the white candles. I found inspiration for this on the internet.

I drug out every red votive I own (which is a lot because we used them on tables at the wedding). Then, I scattered apples around (to play off the cover of Twilight). I think it turned out really fun.
We actually didn't serve a formal, sit-down dinner, but I set up the place settings for the photo. I was making some themed food, so I thought I'd use these little cards of Edward and Bella for place cards for the table. I thought it would be funny. It was.
I even dug out my old skill of folding napkins from my past life as a catering manager.
I think all the red really looks cool. And, I think this could be modified for an elegant dinner, Halloween or even Christmas (sans the blood of course).
And, here is the overview of the different elements of the table.
So, what did you come up with?

A couple of guidelines:
1. Please link to the specific post, not your general blog address.
2. Please include a teaser of your post in parentheses - for example, I would write NewlyWoodwards (Twilight Table)
3. Link your post back up to NewlyWoodwards with text or this button.

Also, please visit at least one other blog below and comment! This will help us all meet each other.

I'm so excited to see what you come up with. Thanks for joining the party.

(Reminder: I will post ideas for next week's challenge tomorrow. Then, I will pick a few of your projects to share later in the week - probably on Friday since Thursday is Thanksgiving and you will be doped up on turkey.)

The Twilight-themed tablescape looks great, Kim! Very dramatic. Your candles came out perfect!

Jenny @ Anything Pretty November 22, 2009 8:11 PM

I love it! You could definitely change it up just slightly for multiple holidays. All the red makes me want to get some red votives for my table.

kelliebelle November 22, 2009 8:15 PM

PUH-LEASE tell me you served Bloody Marys, or something like that?! BWA-HA-HA!!

Seriously. So jealous, wish I lived closer so I could have come! I love that candleabra!

ashley morgan November 22, 2009 8:22 PM

I love all the red! We have a lot of red votives from our wedding too. I plan to pull them out for our Christmas party.

Mrs.CFH2 November 22, 2009 8:26 PM

Love the candleabra. I have a couple just like it...they are heavy beasts...but I've never busted them out. This gives me ideas!

The "New Moon" table looks great Kim! Can I put in an RSVP for the Eclipse party yet? ;-)

It all looks GREAT! I knew it would! Glad you all had fun. I can't wait to see the movie!

You are such an amazing hostess! You went so outrageously above and beyond with your decor for the theme; the party must have been so fun.

alexandjess November 23, 2009 2:05 AM

PS. You were so right. I knew I couldn't set the whole Thanksgiving table (that involves a leaf in our regular table, and an extra table to seat more, all of which takes up too much space in the dining room to be out all week). Anyways, I set a small table so I could participate. It was so fun to come home from dinner at my in-law's tonight to see my table set. It makes the dining room so happy and festive! Just like you said, even if it isn't to eat at, it's fun to look at.

Brian and Ashley November 23, 2009 9:00 PM

Your table looks awesome! I love the blood dripping from the candles- very dramatic. Great job!

Freckles Chick November 23, 2009 9:47 PM

Those candles are TO.DIE.FOR. Or to live eternally for, since we're talking vampires.

You "past life as a catering manager"? Is this before the Cullens "created" you? =]

Kim @ NewlyWoodwards November 23, 2009 9:52 PM

Past life as in "came to my senses and decided I no longer wanted to work crazy hours and deal with bridezillas." Duh!

Thanks, I love the candles, too.

I will NOT be tardy next week. I already have cookies to post.

This is fun and even though I missed the link I will continue to visit the other blogs and leave comments for everyone's hard work and wonderful ideas.

Hi Kim,
I love all the candlelight on your table.

I'm really late with my DIY post, sorry. I know the mclinky is close already, so I thought I'd share here. Hope that is okay.

I made napkin rings and tissue paper flowers.

Please comment on Kim and Ryan's blog! Every time you do, an angel gets it's wings.

Okay, maybe not. But, Kim usually gets a big smile on her face and says, "They like me, they really like me."
