DIY wreath revamp

>> Wednesday, September 23, 2009

Wreaths are not my thing. I always try to make them and they always turn out looking.... how shall I say?.... blah. terrible. boring. cluttered. You name it.

However, I was re-inspired when I saw Mandy's wreath.
I had found a few gorgeous wreaths at specialty stores, but I couldn't justify spending $50-$70 on a wreath that will only be up for a few months.

However.... by using a grapevine wreath I already own, I could perk it up for fall and then change it up for winter.... the gussy it up for spring... you get the picture.

So, I went to Michael's, bought $8 in leaf garland, cattails and faux fall flowers.

And, about 15 minutes later, I had this new beauty:
I think I like it better than the $70 wreath... cause I made it.

10 people have something to say:

looks great. i have never tried making one of my own, but realized when i picked one up at a garage sale for $1, i could have made it myself. it is merely a grapevine wreath, with a fall leaf garland wrapped around it like yours, then they had added just a scarecrow on a stick to it. it is simple but very cute. doubt that i could have made it for a dollar though!!

Your wreath turned out great! I have been wanting to make one too. I'm going to try it if we ever get moved into our house.

Kim, that looks absolutely fantastic! I've never tried making a wreath, in fact I've never hung a wreath either. Maybe I'll have to think about giving one a try.
I'm curious, how do you hang it on your door? There's no visible hook, is it hidden or a small nail?

I think it's awesome! I love making my own stuff, I can always do it cheaper, and then when I get tired of it, I can just go make another one.

Your wreath looks great! I tried making my own wreath once and it just didn't turn out well. I ended up getting one after the fall season on pretty good clearance ($10). The thing is, it's already falling apart! I might just have to copy your idea! It really does look great!

Nice work, I love the mini cream pumpkins.

Looks great! I stick with the store bought Smith and Hawkens at Target when they're on sale. I usually avoid wreath doctoring because the results are usually a disaster.

Please comment on Kim and Ryan's blog! Every time you do, an angel gets it's wings.

Okay, maybe not. But, Kim usually gets a big smile on her face and says, "They like me, they really like me."
