Bedroom to bathroom revamp

August 6, 2009 by Kim Woodward

I touched on our upstairs bathroom in this post, many moons ago. But, it’s worth posting again with more details because it was definitely one of the biggest transformations.

Before this was a small (about 6 by 11 foot) “bedroom.” The neighbors said it had most recently been used for storage, because nothing really fit into the room. But strangely – this was the only upstairs bedroom with an actual closet.

Ryan knocked out the closet and he and our dads ran the plumbing right up from the bathroom… which coincidentally, was right below this room. This made it a lot easier to run the plumbing. The toilet went right where the closet was located (although you cannot see it in this photo because the crazy “photographer” cut it out… and cannot take a straight picture). I promise, the shelves are straight (ask my poor husband, who about had a coronary after working with me, a hammer and a level in the bathroom).

Between the windows, we put another floating shelve, a removable dandelion decal and a towel rack. I also will take this time to highlight my favorite window treatments – the roman shade. These puppies, along with the shades in the entire house (16, if you are counting), were purchased from JC Penney for less than $12 a pop on sale. That’s nothing to sneeze at, if you ask me. They look nice, they open and close easily and they maintain consistency from the outside.

Our lovely little vanity was discovered at Lowes on the showroom floor (for less than $250). The small area that was open after putting in a new shower/tub surround got little shelves and I picked up the cute baskets at Target after weeks of searching for the perfect size. They are ideal for getting ready in the morning, with hair and makeup products and extra towels.

And here’s my favorite shower curtain of all time – from Ballard Designs. It really does make my heart go pitter-patter. And, I’m not afraid to admit it to the Internet world. It’s just truly lovely. I’ve toyed with the idea of having a similar monogram placed on the top of the window treatments. What do you think? Too much of a good thing?

I personally have a crush on anything with a monogram.
Having a bathroom upstairs is really the cat’s meow. Because going to the bathroom in the middle of the night could really be a pain if I had to walk down 10 stairs. Then up them again.
So, what do you think of our transformation?

#1: AMAZING!! What a fab place to do your bidness.
#2: (Heh, “number 2”) A monogram on the window coverings would SO CHIC! That shower curtain’s my fave too (we have it in chocolate lettering).

I think you’ve done a great job! I love the idea of monogramming the shades, too. But, like you, I also have a crush on anything with a monogram. Have a great day!

I love monograms so much, I eventually bought my own machine for it! I’d do it on the towels, just like the other person said. I love the decals – perfection!

I seriously have to laugh at your love for monograms. I too think they’re adorable, but mine and Adam’s monogram spells ASS, so we won’t be getting any monogrammed towels for your bathroom. 🙂

It looks great–I LOVE the paint color!

Personally, I wouldn’t add a monogram to the shades…if you really want another monogram, go for the towels! The towels would be much easier to swap out if you ever decide to go for a totally different color scheme!

I didn’t realize this lovely bathroom of yours was once a bedroom. Way to go! We are eventually tearing our bathroom down to the studs and redoing the whole thing. For now we just used some paint and a new faucet to fix it up. Looks pretty good, you can see it here http://wordsonwendhurst.blogspot.com/2008/03/yay-no-more-red-brick.html
