What do you think? (alternate title: Why I love my husband)
>> Monday, July 27, 2009
We were working on the rental house all weekend. On Sunday afternoon, I walked outside and my husband* was briskly walking down the alley towards the neighbor two doors down. An old man (around 85 years old) was down on the ground. He bent over to get something and couldn't get back up.
My dear sweet husband kept asking him if he needed help. The man must not have heard very well and didn't want to ask for help. But, then my husband asked if he could help him up. He had to lift him up from behind. My husband just went right in and did it.
The man was very appreciative but wouldn't let my husband call anyone. He lives by himself and has had several strokes. Luckily, he has a call button that he wears around his neck in case he falls. My husband helped him to his swing and then stood and talked to him for a while to make sure he was okay.
When my husband had to leave a little bit later, he came in and told me that he wanted me to keep my eye on the old man. He was worried about him.
I truly had tears in my eyes because I thought my husband went above and beyond for someone who didn't even ask for help.
However, my husband thought that anyone would do it.
So - I'm asking you. What do you think? The older man never asked for help, my husband just saw him down and went over to help him.
Do you think that my husband went above and beyond? Or, do you think anyone with a heart would have done this?
(*Note: My husband didn't want me to write this post. He's not a big fan of attention. He has moderate veto power on the blog. So, after a little begging he said I could use it if I didn't use his name. I figured you could keep up without his name.)
13 people have something to say:
I think you married a winner. My husband would do the same thing, and yes, you're right to get teary. It's always nice to see humanity in others, especially in the ones we love.
Aww. That's incredibly sweet--you've got a good guy.
I think most people with a heart would've done the same thing...it's those few out there that would've laughed or walked by like they hadn't seen a thing.
That was a very nice thing for your husband to do. You never know if something like that could even save a life!
My husband would have done the same thing. He's always been very selfless and generous, and loves to help.
There are people out there though that probably wouldn't even think twice about helping, and I think those are very sad people.
We were in the grocery store one day and an elderly man slipped and fell in the middle of one of the aisles. I was shocked that people walked right past him, where as my husband and I ran over to help. So, I think your husband did go beyond the norm, when the norm these days are just turning your head and walking away.
That was really kind.
Sounds very honorable! I don't think everyone would do that -- way to go Ry! Also, love the new page set-up!
Yay for amazing husbands! I think it's great and you're right to be proud, and he should be proud!
My hubby would also definitely do that - without a second thought. I'm loving your new blog design. you look so fancy.
I would hope anyone would do that, but unfortunately, I don't think that's the case. Good for Ryan!
That's our Ryan and why we all love him!! I'm sure that others would have done the same thing, but unfortunately there are those that would have looked the other way. Some people are afraid to get involved. Ryan's actions are were indeed above and beyond.
That is very sweet.
My elderly neighbor had a hip replacement not long ago and his (adult) daughter was trying to get him to the car for a doctor's appointment and my husband went to help him to the car and keep him from falling. I thought it was so nice.
We definately keep an eye out in our neighborhood on the kids playing and our elderly neighbors. But I don't think everyone is like that anymore.
Kudos to your man.
I think anyone with a heart would do the same thing. My fiance pretends to be/is incredibly anti-social, but even he would do somthing like that.
