Bathroom revamp

So, as part of my "Two years down" home segment, I'll start by reviewing the then and now in the original bathroom, on the main floor.
Why did I start here?
Because it was one of the biggest changes. It started out nasty, smelly and dingy. (If you have a weak stomach, you may wish to stop here. I'm showing it in all it's glory.)
Do you see that pretty little cabinet on the left. It was disgusting. Like, still makes me gag a little.
Do you wanna know why?
Do you wanna know what my charming husband found in that when he ripped it out?
Wait for it...
1. Several barbeque chicken bones.
2. A few dirty diapers.
3. A used feminine product.
I cannot imagine why it smelled.
Apparently, the past owners didn't really like to throw out their garbage, they just liked to stuff it behind built-in cabinetry. Makes total sense.
Wasn't it sweet that they left us that nice little TP holder? And a plunger? Ever thoughtful.
And, this vanity was definitely a keeper.
Can you see what I saw in the house? It was totally move-in ready.
And, now photos of the bathroom now. It's the same set-up for ease and cost of renovating, but I think it's a big difference.
Notice the new woodwork. Love it. The husband matched it to the original woodwork in the other rooms. New floors, too. I picked all the colors from the little canvas picture and the towels that I spotted at BB&B on a random trip.
No more dirty cabinet. Just guest towels.
New maple vanity and we reused the mirror from Ryan's grandma.
Can I tell you a secret? I painted all the walls with the test sample from Sherwin Williams. I just got going and I couldn't stop. It did all the walls, base coat and top coat. Haha.... cheapest coats of paint in the entire house. I found out later that those test paints aren't as good of quality, but I sure as heck wasn't doing it over. So, it stayed.
So, that's room number 1 in the Woodward Home-A-Palooza. Thoughts?
10 people have something to say:
Great job. That house was calling for new owners who would love it and it found you guys. You have truly made that house better.
Whenever we get a house you are so coming to Nashville to help decorate it and do any renovations :)
You have done a wonderful job.
wow! that's definitely impressive! seriously, i would love to know what was going through someone's mind when they decided the best place to stash the diaper was behind the cabinets...
Ewwww. I'm having trouble getting past the contents of the cabinet. Wait for it....wait for it...
Ok. You did a fabulous job renovating this baby - and it needed it. Chicken wings. Ewwww. Apparently I'm not over it yet.
I can't believe how nasty that house was left. You did a great job! :)
Who eats chicken wings in the bathroom?? Weird.
Looks fabulous now!! Great job!
Very nice! I hate bathroom renovating. THe small area to work and all. I decided to have a professional install my new Bathroom Vanity. It was nice not having to worry about screwing something up. It amazes me how fast a pro can get this kind of stuff done. 2hrs of work for them is like 12hrs for me.
Um, no credit necessary, I didn't think of the gift! Steal and give away to your heart's content!
You have made great changes, great job.
I eat BBQ in the bathroom all the time but there's a designated trash can for the bones. It just makes sense, you know?
OMG, the after is SO much better by leaps and bounds, Kim! I love how inviting the towels by the door are.
(I have to say this again, but you leave the BEST comments on my blog! Thx.=]
yuck --> mwahhhhh (think angels in heaven singing)
:)
